Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring Music Activity
THIS song is meant to encourage children to use their senses to detect the changes in nature that occur in the spring. Have the children dramatize the words “shh,” “look,” “ooh” (rhymes with “new”). and “all.”
SCIENCE—Take a nature walk with the class, observing the various changes that happen in the spring. See snow melting, flowers peeping, and trees beginning to awake from their winter sleep. Listen to the wind whistling and the birds singing. Take along a magnifying glass for closer looks.
GAME—Play a March wind game. Let the children form a circle and pretend they are trees. Each child can be a different kind of tree. One child is the wind. The wind rushes through the trees, making a wind sound. When teacher gives a signal, the
wind stops and trades places with a tree. The tree child then becomes the wind.
SEQUENCING—Find pictures of flowers peeping, birds singing, noses stinging, snow melting, and trees breathing as they begin to blossom.
Mount the pictures on oak tag. Mix the pictures up and see if the children can put them in the same order as they appear in the song. Have the children act out the song, using the pictures for a guide,
WIND DISCUSSION—Can you see the wind? How does the wind blow different things differently? How does a flag react to the wind compared to leaves of grass?
Have the children pretend to be blown about by the wind. |
